My first full marathon. I had run the Vegas half about 4 times and this was a new course. The start is great being right on the strip. At the half way point the course diverts and there is less to look at. That last five miles were slightly downhill and you can see the "finish line", Mandalay Bay hotel the whole way in. Vegas can be cold and windy but I thought it was a great day. |

This was a good race...except for course mile markers were way off. Hopefully they fixed it this year.
Also it was windy during the 2006 race, but its Vegas in the winter what do you want.
No better place to run a marathon in the winter than Vegas. |

This was the first year of the "New" Las Vegas Marathon where they started to run down the strip. I understand the old course was pretty boring. Going down the strip early in the morning when it was still a little dark was a lot of fun. It was a few miles of distractions to make it seem like you weren't about to go run 26 miles -- nice warmup. The race was pretty flat, but there were some headwinds going towards the mountains that made it a little slower. After the strip, the course was a little dull, but that part alone counts for a better aesthetics score. The race was well organized and I would definitely do that one again. |
